JULIAN LEAPER – LEADER

Julian Leaper has been the leader of the RTWSO for nearly two years, having occasionally played in the orchestra’s concerts before then. He took up the violin at the age of five, and won a Junior Exhibition Scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where he studied the violin with Emanuel Hurwitz and piano with Hamish Milne.

At the Royal Academy he was awarded several prizes for solo performance and chamber music, and he won the prestigious Gerard Heller award. He has appeared as leader and soloist with many British orchestras, as well as working regularly with all the major chamber orchestras and ensembles.

In 2013 he joined the Maggini String Quartet as first violin.
