Roderick Dunk is the RTWSO Music Director and one of Britain’s most versatile conductors, with a repertoire encompassing a diverse range of musical genres. He has conducted numerous British orchestras including the BBC CO, Hallé, CBSO, RLPO, RPO, LSO, BBC SSO, RSNO, and the Orchestra of the Opera North. Abroad he has conducted in Ireland, Norway, Finland, Germany and Italy and as far afield as Bangkok and Hong Kong.
He has been a regular guest conductor for the BBC’s “Friday Night is Music Night”. Roderick is also a prolific arranger and his scores are performed by orchestras all over the world. He has conducted CD recordings for a wide variety of orchestras and artists from the BBC and LSO to Larry Adler and Annie Lennox.
Mark Shanahan was born in Manchester, and attended Chetham’s School and later the University of London and studied conducting at the Royal Academy of Music with the Sir Henry Wood Scholarship winning first prize of the first NAYO Conducting Competition. He is active as an opera and orchestral conductor, and has been associated with the English National Opera. He has conducted operas in theatres such as La Fenice, Théâtre Graslin, Nationale Reisopera, Opera North, Grange Park Opera, Opera Ireland, English Touring Opera, Marseilles Opera and the Frankfurt Opera.
Guest conducting engagements include the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Centre and Royal Albert Hall with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of Opera North and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. He is also Guest Conductor of the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and Artistic director of the Forest Philharmonic Orchestra.
Barry Wordsworth is Principal Guest Conductor of The Royal Ballet. He has a long relationship with The Royal Ballet, having first been appointed as Assistant Conductor to the Company’s touring orchestra in 1972. The following year he became Principal Conductor of the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet and served as Music Director of The Royal Ballet from 1990 to 1995 and from 2006 to 2015, after an interim period with Birmingham Royal Ballet.
He is Music Director Laureate of BRB and Conductor Laureate of the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Brighton Philharmonic. He has appeared as a guest conductor with companies around the world, including Tokyo Ballet, Leipzig Ballet and Paris Opera Ballet. He was appointed to his current position at the start of the 2015/16 Season.
