RAVEL Mother Goose Suite

MENDELSSOHN Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64

RACHMANINOFF Symphonic Dances, Op. 45

Roderick Dunk – Conductor
Callum Smart – Violin

One of the most popular and well-known violin concertos in the repertoire, the Mendelssohn concerto sees the return of another of the orchestra’s favourite soloists, Callum Smart, for this final concert of the season. The concert opens with Ravel’s lovely Mother Goose Suite (five children’s pieces) which started life as a piano duet. The composer’s own subsequent orchestration has all of the subtlety and colour we expect from Ravel’s complete mastery of the instruments. Our season closes with one of the great orchestral showpieces, Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances.
